Samsung’s 4K TVs are increasing in popularity and it seems consumers are looking for bigger screens squeezed into their living rooms. According to a new report from Korean media, Samsung has seen record growth for its 60-inch and larger TVs. In fact, during the first six months of the year, they sold a whopping 12 million of them across the world. That’s up 23 percent for the same time last year.
Of course, one of the reasons for this explosion in sales could be that more of us have decided to treat ourselves to a cinema experience at home during the months of lockdown that occurred due the ongoing global health crisis.
But it’s still impressive and puts Samsung well ahead of its rivals when it comes to television sales. The latest stats suggest that Samsung now has a 31 percent share of the market, that’s compared to its closest rival, LG, which commands a 16.6 percent share.
One of the reasons why Samsung could be leading the way is that the tech firm continues to push the boundaries of its TVs with it releasing a number of radical products this year including the clever rotating Sero telly that spins to reflect what is on your smartphone’s display and the stunning Serif screen which blends into homes like a piece of posh furniture.

There’s also the new outdoor screen called The Terrace which can survive a downpour and Samsung is also about to release a way of bingeing on boxsets without even needing a television.
Called The Premier, this new 4K Ultra Short Throw laser projector can beam stunning footage straight onto any wall in your home with Samsung even claiming that it’s capable of producing an image that is HDR10+ certified. In theory, that means users get the ultimate picture quality no matter how dark or light the image being projected.
Along with HDR10+, The Premiere also supports Filmmaker Mode, which marks the first time such technology has appeared in a projector. This setting allows users to enjoy watching movies as director intended.
“Over the past few months, we have seen how consumers are spending more time at home and how the role of everyday life continues to change. TV has become the center of entertainment, a fitness partner, a co-worker and a source for news,” said Jongsuk Chu, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “The Premiere re-imagines the home cinema experience with an all-new, compact design, 4K picture quality and big sound for tight spaces that can be used for any at-home activity and living room arrangements.”
There’s no word on UK price or availability just yet, but two models are set to land on store shelves across the world. The more basic LSP7T offers a slightly smaller projection and does not have compatibility with HDR10+.
