Yellowstone season 4 spoilers: Jamie star teases character's fate in showrunner bombshell

Viewers were devastated when a complex series of attacks on the Dutton family seemed to come out of nowhere in the last moments of Yellowstone’s gripping season three finale. With the future of the ranch unclear, Wes Bentley has dropped some huge hints for how the Paramount series could continue.

John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) and his family were thrown into chaos when the third season of Yellowstone concluded last month.

The ranch-owner ended the season bleeding on the side of the road, whilst the fates of his children Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) hung in the balance.

Meanwhile, Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) continued to distance himself from his adoptive dad and siblings throughout season three.

After meeting up with his biological father, Garrett Randall (Will Patton), some fans have speculated he could be behind the latest series of attacks on the ranch.

Yellowstone comes from the mind of Hollywood writer-director Taylor Sheridan, who has promised big things to come in the confirmed fourth season.

Sheridan is known for popular neo-Western films such as Hell or High Water and Wind River, and has received similar acclaim with his leap to the small screen.

In a recent interview, Jamie star Wes Bentley has confirmed Sheridan’s latest direction for the Dutton’s has blown the door wide open for possibilities in the coming season.

Bentley confirmed to EW: “As an audience, it feels like the board got wiped and we can write some new things on that board.”

As ever, it appears the next season of Yellowstone will be even more unpredictable than the last.

Thankfully, Paramount have indeed renewed the drama for a fourth season, expected to drop next year, though it is unclear whether the next instalment will wrap up the Duttons’ story.

After facing his biological father’s past crimes in season three, including murdering his mother, Bentley confirmed his character will be in a precarious position at the start of season four.

He went on: “I mean, where do you go from there? I don’t know. I have a great mom and dad. I’m lucky. Where I get my spine is from my family. You know what I mean?”

“I stand up because of my family, right? For Jamie, who is he now? He has no spine or legs to stand on.

“I think Jamie finds family important. He wants that. He wants the love that comes with it.”

Despite frequent clashes with his sister Beth, Jamie could return to the ranch and form an even closer bond with his adoptive family in the aftermath of the latest episode.

Yellowstone is available to watch on Paramount.
