Expert shares safest way to travel with luggage as concerns mount over virus contamination

As travel resumed for UK holidaymakers, the British Government offered new advice for those hoping to jet off with possession in tow. Despite the advice though, some airlines such as Ryanair contradicted the messaging from the Government, posing confusion for some travellers.

The expert added that hold luggage, in particular, could pose a risk due to one major aspect of the travel journey.

“The baggage belt has also been flagged by the Government as a potential spreading point for COVID-19,” Mr Quee continued.

This is why travelling with household antibacterial wipes seems to be becoming the “new normal”.

Along with being a handy way of eliminating germs from your luggage once it has been collected, Mr Quee also pointed out a number of additional uses for the wipes.

“Household cleaning wipes can also help to reduce the chance of transmission when travelling during the pandemic,” he noted.

“It’s advisable to wipe down the tray on your flight before use, but these wipes must be used in one direction as wiping them back and forth could allow germs to spread widely.”

Despite these tips, though, there are likely to be plenty of people taking to the skies who would rather eliminate any potential risk from luggage altogether.

The good news is, there is a Government recommended alternative to checking in suitcases.

“To further decrease the chances of catching COVID-19 via your baggage, the government has advised travellers to use luggage delivery services – such as Send My Bag – for any trips you have coming up,” he said.

“Send My Bag offers competitive rates for international door-to-door luggage delivery access more than 10,000 routes worldwide in over 150 countries.”

Along with keeping luggage germ free, there are some additional key measures plane passengers can take to help reduce the spread of the virus.

“Along with temperature checks on arrival and departure, face masks have been shown to be among the most effective way of limiting the spread of COVID-19 in air travel.

“These have quickly become the must-have travel essential for any trip abroad, as they are now mandatory on almost all flights and indoors in numerous holiday hotspots, such as Spain and Italy,” said Mr Quee.
