Leeds had £8m bid for key Rangers man 'rejected' amid Marcelo Bielsa revamp

Leeds United have had a bid for Borna Barisic rejected by Rangers, reports in Croatia have claimed.

The 27-year-old was one of Rangers’ standout performers last season, in which he made a total of 40 appearances for the club.

His impressive displays for the Teddy Bears are said to have caught the eye of several teams.

And it’s been claimed, newly-promoted Leeds are one of the clubs impressed by the Croatia international.

According to Sportske Novosti, last season’s Championship winners tabled an £8million bid for the left-back earlier this summer.

“We’re not surprised if there is any interest in Borna,” Gerrard said.

“Of course we’re not because he has been a consistent performer for us for some time now and he has started the season so brightly again.

“But he has signed a long-term deal here, everyone loves him, the fans like him and he was in the running for Player of the Year.

“Left-backs are difficult to get. It’s the reason Arsenal paid so heavily for Kieran Tierney.

“It’s the reason why Jurgen Klopp has just had to spend £12million for another left-back when he already has one that’s worth whatever amount of money.

“If someone did come, they would have to bring an awful lot of money with them.”

Barisic and his Rangers team-mates will be back in action a week on Saturday, welcoming Dundee United to Ibrox.

Leeds, meanwhile, will return to the pitch next Saturday, travelling to Anfield to take on defending Premier League champions Liverpool.
