Harry Potter's Weasley twins 'don't see why' they wouldn't back series amid controversy

Harry Potter (played by Daniel Radcliffe) made quite the mark in the popular culture industry. While the series of seven books were a runaway success, the film franchise that followed catapulted the series into superstardom, prompting a new generation of fans, and indeed a following legacy which enriched the film industry for years to come.

The seven films encapsulated the magic and wonder of the books, and allowed fans of all ages to experience the unbelievable story of the boy who lived.

Since the end of the Harry Potter film franchise, a spin-off series has now begun.

Starring Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, the franchise delves into prequel territory, as it deals with the arrival of Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), and his battle against Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law).

However Harry Potter fans were put in an awkward position within the past 12 months, as Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling posted some comments online which divided fans.

Despite this, the most recent bout of ongoing support for the franchise has been headed up by Fred and George Weasley actors James and Oliver Phelps.

The twins spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about working with Warner Bros. years after their time in the franchise came to an end, and indeed how the brand new LEGO Diagon Alley LEGO set involves their characters for the first time.

The new set is created from 5,544 individual pieces and includes 14 mini figures, including Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and indeed Fred and George Weasley.

For the first time, the pair have been immortalised in LEGO versions of themselves inside Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes storefront – which featured in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Whilst speaking to the brothers about their new project with LEGO, they confessed they were happy to support the brand going forward, whilst making no mention of Rowling and her comments.

“I can only speak for me personally,” James said. “But I don’t see why not.

“So if I met someone that I was a really big fan of – of what they’ve worked on – if I could just ask them one or two questions.

“Just to give them that time just to tell them a little bit of a story.”

It seems as if, no matter what, the members of the Harry Potter team are eager to keep involved with the franchise for the future, at the very least for the fans.

That is why the twins decided to continue working with LEGO for this project, which not only includes Ollivanders’ Wand Shop from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, but also the Weasley twins’ store itself.

Last year Rowling tweeted about women, trans women, and sexuality, prompting quite the row online.

She wrote: “Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real? #IStandWithMaya #ThisIsNotADrill.”

Following this, she has doubled down on her opinions, prompting further unrest in the Harry Potter community.

LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley set is available directly from LEGO Stores and the LEGO Harry Potter website now.
