PS5 price and pre-order news as new PlayStation 5 console rival leaks

More news regarding the final PS5 price could be on its way this month, and may even include more details when pre-order pages will be available.

It should be noted that Sony has already provided an update of sorts regarding the pre-order process, although it won’t prove to be good news for everyone.

The tech giant is opening up PS5 pre-order options to a small group of customers, and you can register your interest in being part of it right now.

“There will be a limited quantity of PS5 consoles available for pre-order, so we will be inviting some of our existing consumers to be one of the first to pre-order one from PlayStation,” a message from Sony explains.

“Pre-order reservations will be taken on a first-come-first-serve basis, so once you get an invite via email, we encourage you to follow instructions and act fast. Our selection is based on previous interests and PlayStation activities.”

Sony has been slow to release new information but that hasn’t stopped the company being backed to top its rivals, like Microsoft.

We know that the Xbox Series X is launching in November and that’s more than PlayStation fans know.

But something that Microsoft hasn’t revealed yet is if they are bringing an Xbox Series S console to the market.

Rumours of a less powerful Xbox console launching the same year as the Xbox Series X have been doing the rounds for some time.

However, Microsoft has only ever officially spoken about launching one console, and focusing entirely on that project alongside its new streaming platform, Project xCloud.

But a new report out this week suggests that an Xbox Series S – AKA Project Lockhart – could be real and in production.

First, we saw a white Xbox Series S controller listed on a resale site, and was confirmed to be real.

Now, a second reference has been found regarding the fabled Xbox Series S, which makes it seem like we’ll be finding out about it soon.

Den of Geek reports that an Xbox Game Pass trial card has also been found in the wild, which references several Xbox Series devices.

The trial card reportedly reads: “100 high-quality games on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10.”

The person who bought the new controller posted online: “I got a new controller for my Xbox since mine was broken. Interestingly enough, the Game Pass Ultimate trial code sheet mentions the unannounced @Xbox Series S. It’s definitely a thing.”

Hints of upcoming PS5 news come as an alleged leak emerged on 4chan claiming the next PS5 event will be taking place on September 9.

While the notorious online message board has been the home to numerous fake leaks, it also has been where a number of legitimate leaks have emerged – such as details on Pokemon Let’s Go for the Nintendo Switch being leaked early.

This latest alleged leak claimed that the September 9 PS5 event will reveal details on the PS5 hardware, features, UI as well as the release date and price.

There’s no official word on when the PS5 will be revealed, or if Microsoft have plans to launch the Xbox Series S this year.

But gamers are hoping for something in the coming weeks before any new pre-order news is shared.
