There are many products available that promise to get rid of tough carpet stains. However, cleaning fans have revealed carpets can be freshened up by using an unusual but simple household product.
Fans of the cleaning expert Mrs Hinch will regularly share their own hacks online.
Mrs Hinch, real name Sophie Hinchcliffe, became well-known for sharing her easy cleaning hacks online.
As well as racking up a huge following of her own, she has inspired others to share their own tips.
Posting in a Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook Group, one woman shared a picture of a dark pink stain on her carpet.

She wrote: “Had a nail polish disaster! How can I get it out of the carpet?
“I’ve tried nail polish remover, vodka, a really old white spirit and vanish carpet stuff. Nothing is working!”
While the homeowner claimed she had tried everything, other Facebook users were quick to share their suggestions.
The post soon gathered more than 150 comments as others explained how they remove stains.
A number of users suggested shaving gel or foam to remove the stain.
One Facebook user wrote: “My daughter did this last week with purple nail polish.
“Shaving gel/foam did the trick and not much effort! Good luck.”
“Shaving foam or gel works! Speaking from experience,” another added.
Even when carpets are not stained it is important to clean them regularly, according to experts at sofa and carpet specialist ScS.
They said: “Bedroom carpets can be ten times dirtier than a toilet seat, so it’s really important to clean them regularly.
“At least once a week, give your carpets a good vacuum, and use natural cleaning sprays for a quick refresh.”
