The Handmaid’s Tale: Commander Lawrence star reveals ‘difficult’ moment when filming

The Handmaid’s Tale season four is set to drop on Hulu next year and fans will finally get to see what happened to June Osborne (played by Elisabeth Moss) in the forest. But, ahead of the release Commander Lawrence actor Bradley Whitford has opened up about what he found most difficult when producing such a show.

Commander Lawrence and June have a strange relationship in which fans are confused as to whether or not they like each other, or use each one another.

Commander Lawrence has helped June in so many ways, but at the end of the day, he is the evil man who created the colonies where women go to be punished.

“The ceremony scene was truly difficult to shoot even though we don’t see anything,” Bradley recently explained.

“Because here you have a scene where June is basically, for everyone’s safety, talking the rapist through the rape.

“It is just an extraordinary piece of writing.

“As to his motivations I do think his love for Eleanor was real and I think she made clear to him the horror he enabled and was able to create.

“I think somewhere, although he is a very bitter, dark, misogynistic man, I think there is some search for redemption.

“But what I love about the writing is, in a less nuanced show, I would have an epiphany and become a good person but that would diminish the truth of what June is going through.”

Commander Lawrence’s future is up in the air, but it will all come down to whether or not he, as one of the main creators of Gilead can actually be punished.

June, at the end of the day, was Lawrence’s handmaid.

So any misdemeanours and surely will come straight back to him, especially of this magnitude.

But, could Commander Lawrence ever be the one to save June once and for all?

June is going to have to answer a lot of questions when and if she gets back to Gilead without being able to escape.

If not Commander Lawrence, who will be the one to help June get her daughter and leave?

In a recent poll by Express.co.uk, fans said it would be Nick Blaine (Max Minghelle) who will in no doubt save her.

With 58 percent thinking this, it seems Nick could even lose his life for the handmaid.

If he were to save her from Gilead’s vicious ways, could he lose more than his wife and daughter?

The Handmaid’s Tale seasons 1-3 are available to stream on NowTV now.
