Susie Dent heartbreak: Susie opens up – 'Not as demure as people might think'

Susie Dent has been a part of Countdown for nearly 30 years after joining the show in 1992. The show teamed up with comedy panel show 8 out of 10 cats in 2012. This week, the popular spin-off show will look back on the best bits from the recent series.

On-screen, Susie portrays a sense of innocence, but the Countdown star has previously spoken of how she is not like many people think.

Talking to Radio Times of her role on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Susie spoke of why she is not as “demure” as many may think.

She told the publication: “When the show first started, Jimmy was very respectful and I didn’t really feel part of it.

“But now he’s making me out to be some kind of sex addict or, you know, really into bondage or whatever.

“You get some criticism in there, and it is not nice, but I love interacting with people about a topic I have a passion for.”

In the past Susie admitted life in the spotlight is not a career path she thought she would have.

Talking to Buzz Magazine, Susie said: “I was never meant to be on TV at all.

“It certainly wasn’t the career path that I had deliberately chosen, and I’m naturally the sort of person who likes to fly below the radar.”

However, Susie has since spoken her love for the show.

Susie told Essential Surrey: “I’ve never once been bored playing Countdown – the adrenalin still flows whenever the clock and its music set in.

“We have a fantastic team, both on set and off, and I also love the fact that the contestants are chosen for true ability, not because they’ll make good television.”

A compilation episode of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown will air tonight (Friday, August 28)at 9pm on Channel 4.
