Michelle Obama confession: Ex-FLOTUS' mother's bombshell Barack admission

The former FLOTUS has become one of the world’s most recognisable faces, after she supported Barack in his campaign to become the US’ first-ever black President. The couple’s legacy was secured after the historic election in 2008, which began an eight-year reign in the White House. Although the ex-First Lady of the United States admitted to being “nervous” about Barack’s campaign, her family were always on board with his aspirations, as her brother Craig Robinson explained during an edition of The Michelle Obama Podcast.

And when reflecting on the family’s first meeting with Barack, Craig confessed that the siblings’ mother Marian Robinson was impressed with the “kinda good looking” boyfriend Michelle had brought home.

But Craig claimed he was at first cautious of Barack as he admitted there “may have been one or two guys you dated that I absolutely didn’t like”.

He added: “But for the most part, your decisions on who to date were solid, just being able to, judge people, and develop your own relationships, and be able to navigate that, at a young age, and you were usually a pretty short term dating.

“And then lo and behold you meet Barack Obama. So after a while, you were like finally gonna let us meet him.

“You drove up in your nice black Saab, and you were driving of course, and he got out of the passenger side, and I remember the first thing mom said, ‘Oooh he’s tall, he’s kinda good looking’.”

Throughout her career, she has been seen as a rock to Barack, who helped rewrite American history during his two terms in the White House.

Yet it was in those moments before Barack would make history, that Michelle questioned herself – and her desire for the couple’s future.

Michelle said that as a result of her father’s death in 1991, she relied heavily on Craig for support and a second opinion, adding: “I mean, it’s like, talking to you about my fears about it, having you assure me that this is gonna be OK – you were the one that said ‘you married a guy who has this kind of ambition, and this, in his heart, so, what are you gonna do’. You might, I don’t know if you remember what you said.”

Craig then hit back: “I remember because you were in one of your moods, where you were like, nah, I want my husband to be like Frasier Robinson [Michelle and Craig’s father].

“And, first of all, that’s not fair to anybody. That dude, he was a special guy, and there was no way you were gonna put that pressure on any guy, it wouldn’t ever work. You’d never be married.

“But second of all, was what I said about, I was like listen, you’re trying to penalise, because, let’s face it, none of us thought that Barack could do what he was talking about doing.”

Since Barack went on to become the US’ first – and only – black President, the couple are now considered two of the most influential people on the planet.

Michelle in particular, is a multi-millionaire thanks to her best-selling memoir ‘Becoming’.

Michelle has opened up candidly about her father’s death before, once describing it as leaving a “hole in my heart”, while maintaining his memory was what motivated her every day.

More recently, the former lawyer has discussed her own feelings, admitting that she is currently suffering from “low-grade depression”, something a recent Census Bureau survey claimed one in three Americans was also experiencing.

Speaking on the most recent podcast, Michelle said she was “waking up in the middle of the night because I’m worrying”, blaming issues such as the global coronavirus pandemic, racism and politics within the US.

Following her admission, Michelle was inundated with well-wishers, leading her to respond on Instagram that she’s “doing fine”.

She added: “There’s no reason to worry about me.

“The idea that what this country is going through shouldn’t have any effect on us — that we all should just feel OK all the time — that just doesn’t feel real to me.

“So I hope you all are allowing yourselves to feel whatever it is you’re feeling.”
