‘In positional play, in the general perception of the entire game, in tactical behaviour both offensively and defensively – Guardiola downright reprogrammed me,’ he told Kicker.

‘It’s the simple movements that make you think, “Oh, never”. But when you implement them, you realise very quickly that Guardiola is right.

‘What he advises helps a lot, it makes the game easier and faster. Tactics are the most important thing to him.’

City accepted an offer worth an initial £45m plus £10m in add-ons after Sane entered the final year of his deal at the club.

The Germany international was valued at more than £130m last summer as the two clubs haggled over a fee, before an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the Community Shield put a stop to the switch.

Sane, who had to be patient under the tutelage of Guardiola, scored 39 goals and supplied 45 assists in 135 matches for City and he was part of the side that lifted back-to-back Premier League titles.
