F1 reveal Sakhir Grand Prix twist with Lewis Hamilton and co to face new 55-second circuit

All of the circuit configurations in Bahrain hold the FIA Grade 1 Licence required to stage an F1 Grand Prix.

And that made Brawn and co.’s job easier as they announced the exciting prospect of using a new track in F1.

The coming weeks will now be used to ensure all elements of the second circuit are up to scratch for December’s meet.

“We thank Formula 1 for all their work in analysing options for our second race and it’s a great testament to our venue that we will be able to hold what is likely to be very contrasting races on consecutive weekends,” said Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, chief executive of Bahrain International Circuit.

“Our outer track has never been used for international competitive racing, so will be a new and exciting challenge for all participants.”
