Shocking video has captured the moment a French bus driver was dragged to the ground by his hair before being beaten up near Paris.

Footage captured in Seine-Saint-Denis, a poor suburb of the French capital, on Tuesday shows the driver being pulled over twice and kicked in the stomach.

It comes after driver Philippe Monguillot was beaten to death by a group of passengers after he confronted them for not wearing masks in the city of Bayonne.

Shocking footage has captured a bus driver being repeatedly dragged to the ground by his hair and kicked in the stomach in the Parisian suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis

RATP, the Parisian public transport company, said the attack happened around 7.20pm after a ‘traffic dispute’ between the driver and another vehicle.

Footage shows a silver Smart car parked immediately in front of the bus, which has stopped in the middle of the road.

It is not clear exactly what caused the dispute, how the fight started, or who precisely was involved.

Footage shows a large group of people gathered around the driver, one of whom attacks him while the others appear to be trying to help.

RATP says it was one of the bystanders who called the police, and later lodged a complaint with them.

The company says it is investigating the incident, which is just the latest in a long line of incidents in the 93rd arrondissement.

According to Le Parisien, attacks on bus drivers in the area have been a near-daily occurrence over the summer months.

Seine-Saint-Denis is known as one of the roughest parts of Paris, with poverty rates much higher than the rest of the capital.

It is often referred to as a ghetto for migrants arriving from north Africa and parts of the Middle East, and is known to be rife with violent crime and drugs.

Several of the disputes have concerned passengers failing to wear face masks, including one on August 14, according to ACTU.

Mr Monguillot, another French bus driver working 400 miles away in the south of the country, was beaten up while trying to enforce face mask rules on July 2.

He was set upon by a gang of people who beat him so severely that he was declared brain-dead, before dying in hospital a week later.

Two people were subsequently charged with attempted murder, two more were charged with failing to help a victim, and a third was charged with hiding a suspect.

The two men accused of attempted murder ‘violently kicked and punched the upper part of his body, including his head’, prosecutors say.
