Martin Lewis explains a hack to save thousands on council tax bills – list of discounts

Those who need to live in a larger property because of their disability, for example to have extra storage room for equipment, may get a discount.

The government website states: “The property must be the main home of at least one disabled person. This can be an adult or a child.

“It does not have to be the person responsible for paying the council tax.”

Live-in carers and those with severe mental illnesses, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and severe learning difficulties, are both exempt from paying council tax.
