Luis Suarez 'in talks with Inter Miami' over possible MLS move

Luis Suarez ‘in talks with Inter Miami’ over possible MLS move after being told he can leave Barcelona… as Ajax admit there is little chance of them convincing striker to return to Holland

  • The former Liverpool striker has been offered the chance to make a move to MLS
  • His former club Ajax have admitted the chances of luring him back there are slim

Luis Suarez has held talks with MLS franchise Inter Miami as the mad scramble to secure one of world’s top strikers begins.

Suarez was told this week by new Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman that he does not feature in his plans and is free to leave the club.

The Dutchman has been criticised for his handling of the situation, telling the Uruguayan by phone, along with three other stars, that he was no longer wanted at the Nou Camp.

But that does not change the fact that the former Liverpool frontman is now being forced to plan for his own future, and according to the Independent, Inter Miami – owned by David Beckham – have stolen a march on the rivals for his signature.

They state that while Suarez does intend to stay in Europe as a first choice, Miami are in a strong position to offer more money – with others likely to be put off offering mega wages due to his age and injury concerns. He currently earns £405,000 a week at Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Suarez’s former club Ajax have admitted it will be hard to convince the striker to return to Holland.

When asked about the possibility of the 33-year-old returning on Ziggo Sport, director of football Marc Overmars said: ‘Let me put it this way: the chance that he will come is quite small.

‘That’s a straight answer, I think. Whether there has been any contact with him? We have that with several ex-Ajax players. That is logical, you also have to maintain that.’

Suarez is not the only Barcelona players left with a big decision to make on his future.

Lionel Messi has informed the club that he wishes to leave the Nou Camp, too, with his team-mate appearing to back his wishes.
