Outlander has turned Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan into global stars thanks to their joint performances as star-crossed lovers Claire and Jamie Fraser. The pair were relatively unknown prior to being cast in the Starz series. Balfe and Heughan now serve as producers on Outlander as well as starring as the leads in the show.
Heughan was hired early on in the Outlander casting process whereas she won the role of Claire only days before the show was due to start filming.
Following an audition process, Heughan and Balfe did a chemistry test to see if the two could bring the smouldering passion needed for the epic romance between Jamie and Claire.
The chemistry test, which has ended up online, showed the twosome reading a scene and creating required frisson.
Balfe recently opened up to GoldDerby about working with Heughan, saying the pair hit it off from the start.

Adding: “I think what he brings is just his heart and he’s got such a big heart as Sam and obviously as Jamie, that’s why we all love him so much is that purity of heart.”
Balfe and Heughan are now getting ready to return to work on season six of Outlander, which was greenlit back in 2018 as part of a double renewal.
While it looks like the coronavirus pandemic could affect filming on the new series, the scripts for the new series have already been completed.
The forthcoming series is going to be based on Diana Gabaldon’s sixth book in the Outlander novel series A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
Along with adapting material from the novel, the writers are likely to take elements and storylines from some of the other books if it fits the show.
There are also questions over season seven and whether the show will get the green light for another outing.
Gabaldon has penned a total of eight books to date with two more planned in the pipeline to finish off the series.
While fans could be in for a bit of a wait to find out about another series, the future looks bright of the historical series.
