Arsenal appear keen to do a deal, given manager Mikel Arteta’s need to trim the inflated wage bill at the Emirates.

Schalke have been badly hit financially by the affects of the coronavirus pandemic, though are said to remain confident of pulling off the deal.

The player himself is reported to be keen on a return to Germany, primarily due to ‘private reasons.’

Kolasinac has been in and out of the Arsenal team since his arrival, and showed bursts of promise mixed with indifferent performances.

In July 2019 Kolasinac, along with team-mate Mesut Ozil, was caught up in a terrifying ordeal in north London.

The two players were chased for a mile by knife-wielding carjackers, before later confronting the individuals.

A video of the attack went viral online, after Kolasinac was seen stepping out of Ozil’s car and facing off the armed individual, who quickly scarpered from the scene.

In 77 Premier League appearances since joining the Gunners, Kolasinac has scored twice and provided 13 assists.

He has also picked up 12 domestic yellow cards during his time in English football.
