Images from the scene in Mahad, India, show a pile of rubble after a building collapsed. Witnesses were spotted standing around the complex – which is understood to have been around six years old.
Unconfirmed reports suggest more than 70 people are trapped in the debris.
The incident took place at 4.45 am this morning.
Visuals from the site of collapse show people being taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
The reason for the building’s collapse is yet to be confirmed however.
The residential building has around 45 flats and was home to almost 100 people.
Mahad police said in a statement: “Fifteen injured people have been rescued and taken to hospital.”
Rescue teams with specialised equipment were rushed to spot to look for survivors buried under the debris.
AFP reports that India’s National Disaster Response Force said that Canine squads were also deployed to the scene of the accident.

It comes a week after a 41-year-old man was killed when a vacant building near Rizvi College in Mumbai’s Bandra collapsed.
The three-storey building had fallen in on the compound wall of the neighbouring building and also damaged its ground floor.
