Betty turned herself into police and never denied the killings took place or five shots were fired.

At her trial, Betty explained she never planned to kill Dan and Linda and the crime was not premeditated, as the prosecution argued.

Her defence at the trial was she suffered from battered woman syndrome (BWS) and was driven over the edge to commit the double killing.

Broderick was found guilty on two counts of second-degree murder on December 11, 1991.

She was sentenced to two consecutive terms of 15 years to life plus two years for illegal use of a firearm.

Who is Amanda Peet?

In Dirty John season two, Amanda Peet takes on the role of Betty Broderick.

Peet is an American actress from New York City, best known for her role as Jules in Brockmire.

She is also well known for her role as Jordan McDeere in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Jacqueline Barrett in Jack and Jill.

Her other credits include Seinfeld, Identity Thief, Trust me and 2012.

“I understood when she talked about feeling more peaceful when she was in jail. She immediately accepted her punishment and embraced it.”

She added: “What scared me was that she had no remorse for the murders, or at least claims not to have any. That definitely scared me.

“I had to focus on more than the murders to be able to take on this role.”
