Yaya Toure explains why he 'could see' Lionel Messi playing for Man City

Lionel Messi will struggle to cope with the demands of English football according to Yaya Toure – unless he is playing for Pep Guardiola.

The Barcelona legend is said to be considering his future following the dismal implosion at the Nou Camp and could end his 20-year association with the Catalan giants by moving to the Premier League.

But Toure – who made the same move a decade ago – warned: “Few managers are going to love him because he just sits off to the side and does not want to defend much.

“In England, they want you to work, defend and attack and it is not easy. But if he had to leave the club, maybe he could come to City.

“I could see him playing for City because Guardiola knows him better and he could put him in this City team too to play his football.”

Premier League done deals: Every confirmed transfer this summer so far

“Anybody could have the virus so some other clubs might be afraid to receive a player that has come in from outside of the club.

“But Leyton Orient were just, ‘No problem! Come, just come! Train!’

“I have to do all the same things. It reminds me of my old times playing football and it is good.”

Yaya Toure was speaking at the “Hotels.com Dream Screen” drive-in experience ahead of the UEFA Champions League Semi-Final 2020. Hotels.com is the official partner of the UEFA Champions League.
