‘Great team’

Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui: “This is a completely new and different team, with different players and a different manager.

“It helps that the club have reached this stage before, but I don’t think it’s an advantage for anybody.

“Two totally different teams are playing, and we are up against a great team.

“Inter are a team equipped to compete in the Champions League, given the calibre of players they have, which is extraordinary, and their very experienced manager who has coached many top teams.

“What I expect is a top-quality match which will demand the best of us. We will try to prepare well for it and have the answers for such a daunting challenge.”

Did you know…

Ashley Young is the first Englishman to start a UEFA European final for a non-British club since Owen Hargreaves started the 2001 Champions League final for Bayern Munich.

Of course you didn’t know that. Nor did I. But perhaps you’ll be able to use it as pub ammunition when the conversation is in short supply.

Team news

Nice and simple. Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte fields an unchanged starting XI from their emphatic five-goal thrashing of Shakhtar Donetsk.

Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez lead the line.

Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui makes one change. Luuk de Jong is rewarded for his semi-final winner by replacing Youssef En-Nesyri.

Fixtures…

So there are, in fact, TWO Europa League fixtures this evening. Bet you didn’t know that…

Obviously we have the final between Sevilla and Inter Milan.

But there’s also the small matter of a preliminary qualifier between… Tre Penne vs Gjilani.

It’s the BIG one folks. The San Marino giants take on their Kosovo counterparts.

Starting XI

And we have the line ups. Familiar names all over the place but Premier League fans will best recognise Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young and Jesus Navas. Lucas Ocampos passes a late fitness test and makes the starting XI.

Evening…

Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of Sevilla vs Inter Milan from Cologne.

Ok, it’s not the Europa League final we were expecting… but it’s football on a Friday night, so let’s just be thankful.

It’s Spain vs Italy while the sides from England lick their wounds and enjoy their various beach holidays.

… not everyone is enjoying their holidays of course… a certain Mr Maguire looks to be in a spot of bother over on the island of Mykonos.

Anyway, team news and line ups will be dropping shortly. Standby.
