The 1973 horror classic, The Exorcist, is being rebooted for the big screen and is slated to hit theaters next year, according to a report from Deadline on Thursday.
A reimagining of the nightmare inducing story is being produced by Morgan Creek Entertainment, though other details are scant.

The Deadline piece that mentioned the reboot only noted it in passing at the very end of an article about Rachel Weiz’s new series Dead Ringers.
‘Current Morgan Creek projects include Stay Tuned at AMC, with a planned theatrical reboot of The Exorcist in the works for 2021,’ the outlet wrote in the second to last paragraph.
Despite the casual mention, this appears to be the first anyone has heard of a new film adaptation of frightening film.
The Exorcist premiered in 1973 and was based on a book of the same name. It starred Max von Sydow, Ellen Burstyn and a young Linda Blair as Regan, a child possessed by the demon Pazuzu.

Ironically, SlashFilm uncovered an old 2015 tweet from Morgan Creek that vowed never to revive the demon flick.
‘For the record, we will never attempt to remake THE EXORCIST,’ the account tweeted some five years ago.
Morgan Creek has yet to comment on the reported reboot.
