Producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa took to Twitter to confirm filming for Riverdale’s fifth season will begin very soon. Production was previously delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, but the hit Archie Comics adaptation will be returning to The CW and Netflix in 2021. Betty Cooper star Lili Reinhart sat down to talk time-jumps, high school and quarantine.
Betty Cooper (played by Lili Reinhart) played a pivotal role in the latest season of Riverdale as she got caught up in her boyfriend Jughead Jones’ (Cole Sprouse) faked murder.
Season four concluded prematurely with Killing Mr Honey, in which the overbearing Principal Honey (Kerr Smith) was revealed to have been murdered by the videotape killer.
Production then underwent a severe delay as Riverdale was announced as one of the first shows to be affected by the pandemic when a crew member came in contact with the virus.
Thankfully, the series will be able to continue production in a few days, with producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealing season five would be arriving soon.

As the show’s stars have been getting older over the course of Riverdale’s previous four seasons, fans have long expected the series would eventually jump forward in time.
Lili Reinhart confirmed as much during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and revealed season five would take place seven years after the events of the last episodes.
The 23-year-old star revealed: “We’re actually doing a seven-year time jump into the future so we’re not going to be teenagers anymore.

Fans were eagerly anticipating the penultimate episode centred around Riverdale High’s Prom, as well as the revealing finale.
Filming for Riverdale mostly takes place in Vancouver, which lifted filming restrictions for film and TV projects in June.
However, it has taken some time for cast and crew members to be assured of their safety when they return to set.
Speaking on her own lockdown experiences, Reinhart admitted it would be easy to tell the difference between scenes shot before the pandemic and those completed afterwards.
She said: “We’re all going to be significantly tanner. Maybe I’ve gained weight during quarantine so I’ll look a little different.
“[It’s] five months later, so I think it will be very easy to tell what was filmed in March and what was filmed in September!”
As well as the identity of the videotape killer, fans are eager to tune in and discover if Archie (KJ Apa) and Betty will follow-up their brief and secretive affair in season five.
