James Whale: talkRadio star touched by stranger's gesture amid news cancer has spread

While broadcaster James Whale, 69, was making his way to hospital today for his cancer treatment, a taxi driver offered to pay for his journey. It comes just days after the TalkRADIO star revealed he is fighting cancer of the brain, spine, kidney and lungs.

James, who was diagnosed with cancer just two weeks ago, thanked the main in question, Gary, via Twitter.

In view of his 72,000 followers, James penned alongside a selfie: “At hospital waiting for some treatment going to give a shout out to Gary black cab driver who brought me here but wouldn’t let me pay result.

“Thanks mate that gesture really touched me.”(sic)

Broadcaster Dan Wooton commented with a love heart emoji while one fan wrote: “People can be so kind, can’t they?

James – who starred in Celebrity Big Brother back in 2016 – was believed to be ill for a year until he decided to get himself checked out and had been forgetting names on air.

Recalling his haematologist’s words, the TV star shared: “The woman looked worried and she said, ‘I’m so sorry. I’ve got really, really bad news for you. I’m afraid 20 years ago you had kidney cancer. Well, it looks like it’s probably come back. You’ve got a tumour on your kidney.’

“And I thought, ‘OK, well, 20 years later I’ll have to do it all over again.’

“And then she said, ‘I’m sorry. Sadly it’s spread. You’ve got small lesions in your brain and your lung, in your spine, in your pituitary gland.’”
