Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia has plan to strike Kai Havertz Bayer Leverkusen agreement

Chelsea transfer chief Marina Granovskaia has a plan which she feels will convince Bayer Leverkusen to agree to the sale of Kai Havertz this week despite having two bids rejected in a matter of days.

The Blues initiated talks with a £70million offer earlier in the transfer window.

Leverkusen responded by demanding £90m – but did admit that their versatile midfielder wanted to move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have ramped up their efforts to capture Havertz this week and offered £58m up front with £15m in add ons.

A new bid was made yesterday in which the two clubs edged ever closer to a compromise.

Granovskaia upped her approach to £77m and Leverkusen lowered their asking price to £86m.

Talks are continuing today and both parties are confident that an agreement will be reached sooner rather than later.

The Guardian reports that Granovskaia plans to increase Chelsea’s offer again and will sweeten the deal with lucrative add-ons and bonuses.

If Chelsea pay a higher price but spread the fee over a number of years then it will allow them to strengthen other areas of the squad.

Havertz is keen to leave the BayArena after Leverkusen failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League as they finished fifth in the Bundesliga.

Chelsea want to fix their leaky defence after finalising a deal for Havertz.

The west Londoners conceded more goals than any other side in the top half of the Premier League this season.
