Arsenal will have to wait and see what Ronald Koeman wants to do with Philippe Coutinho after lining up a deal for the Barcelona outcast.

But Barcelona president Josep Martia Batomeu has revealed a decision on whether the playmaker will stay or go will only be made by incoming boss Koeman.

“Coutinho can stay here, if Koeman wants him,” said Bartomeu, with the Dutchman set to be appointed in the next 24 hours or so.

Liverpool tipped to wait for Thiago

Liverpool hero Steve Nicol reckons the Reds might hang on until next summer to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

“Well it’s really in the hands of the Bayern board, if Liverpool don’t come up with a compromise, and I think it was £30million Bayern wanted,” Nicol told ESPN. “If they come up with a compromise that suits Bayern, then it’ll happen.

“But if it doesn’t happen in this window, it’s going to happen next summer when his contract runs out. I would suggest it’s more in Bayern’s interest to get some amount of money rather than get nothing.

“That way both Thiago is happy and Bayern get a decent amount of money as well. It’s hanging in the balance. It’s really down to the board, they’ve got to agree on a price.

“Liverpool have shown they won’t be pushed around by anybody, and if the price isn’t right they won’t take him right now.”

Jadon Sancho to Man Utd twist

Manchester United might abandon plans to sign Jadon Sancho after David Brooks emerged as a serious alternative to the Borussia Dortmund winger.

Sport Witness report there could soon be developments over a deal for the Bournemouth midfielder, who missed most of last season through injury.

Brooks would be available for much less than Sancho, who Dortmund insist won’t be sold after United missed a supposed deadline to seal a £108m deal.

The Wales international used to be on the books at United’s rivals Manchester City and played for Sheffield United prior to his move to Bournemouth.
