Tenet first reactions: ‘Christopher Nolan’s BEST since Inception, flat out great’

Originally set to hit cinemas last month, Tenet will finally debut in UK cinemas from August 26. And now the first reactions from a couple of press screenings have landed. World of Reel’s sources attended “highly secretive” press screenings in Toronto, Canada and Europe, where both cinemas were almost entirely empty.

The first Tenet reaction said: “This was clearly made for Nolan fans, through and through, they will love every single minute of it and it’s also his best movie since Inception.

“It’s akin to Scorsese going back to mob movies or John Ford making another Western.

“A sort of back-to-the-basics approach for Nolan after making Dunkirk.

“There are so many twists and turns in Tenet, it has a puzzle-like nature to its story and the weight of the action scenes is enormous. The 150 minutes just flew.”

The main reason being that there is a lack of exposition and excellent acting from the likes of John David Washington and Robert Pattinson.

Plus the inversion element isn’t too complicated to follow and “you can actually follow this movie and not get too lost.”

They said: “Yes, much like some of his other movies, Tenet plays a lot with time and fate, but it does so in refreshingly concise ways.

“The action scenes are also flat-out great, It feel like Nolan has learned a lot from his experience in Dunkirk, he’s now much more confident in the way he stages his action, there’s barely any overreaching, it all feels very effortless.”

Meanwhile, IMAX employees have also seen Tenet and given a positive reaction.

According to Deadline, it was something along the lines of: “Oh my God – I forgot how great it was to be in a movie.”

IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond said: “Tenet is just a beautifully filmed, beautifully made, wonderful movie… “It wasn’t just one person, at one age.

“It was a number of IMAX employees who spontaneously said that to me.”

The IMAX boss added: “Unlike Dunkirk, which was a European-centric movie, Tenet is a more traditional action-thriller blockbuster with the potential for wider global appeal.”

Tenet’s mysterious synopsis reads: “Armed with only one word—Tenet—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time.

“Not time travel. Inversion.”

Tenet is released in UK cinemas on August 26, 2020.
