Holidays: Full list of ‘safe’ countries amid fear more nations will require quarantine

Holidays are something of a lottery at the moment. One never quite knows when a destination might be snatched off the government’s ‘safe’ list and slapped onto the quarantine list – the naughty stair of the travel industry, if you will, as their coronavirus cases rise. Six countries were swept over to the ‘dark side’ by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on Saturday.

Anyone travelling back from Aruba, France, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands and Turks and Caicos Islands now has to self-isolate for 14 days. Talk about post-holiday blues.

The same rule applies to popular holiday destination Spain as well as a number of others previously exempt from quarantine.

With so many new rules coming into force it can be tricky to stay on top of where you can and cannot go.

The Foreign Office has published their travel advice online with a full list of the ‘safe’ countries.

However, they warn the nations on the list could change at any time which is proving a headache for those hoping to travel in the coming weeks and months.

“We will keep the conditions in these countries and territories under review,” states the government.

“If they worsen we will reintroduce self-isolation requirements.”

On the plus side, other countries will likely be added to the list over time. Fingers crossed they’re the ones you’re after.

DON’T MISS

The government explains: “This list may be added to following further discussions between the UK and international partners.”

Travellers will also need to factor in any transit stops they may have made.

“You will need to self-isolate if you visited or made a transit stop in a country or territory that is not on the list in the 14 days before you arrive in England,” details the FCO.

Remember to also check any entry requirements of the country you’re hoping to visit.
