Chelsea ‘offered Thiago Silva’ as Brazil centre-back ‘prepares to take huge pay cut’ when he leaves French champions PSG after the Champions League final

  • Thiago Silva is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain after the Champions League final
  • The veteran Brazil centre-back could switch to the Premier League with Chelsea
  • Frank Lampard is targeting defensive reinforcements to bolster a leaky backline
  • AC Milan and Fiorentina are also said to be chasing Silva after eight years at PSG

Brazil centre-back Thiago Silva could join Chelsea next season after being offered to boss Frank Lampard once Sunday’s Champions League final is complete, according to reports.

The 35-year-old will leave Paris Saint-Germain once he has played his part in the showpiece in Lisbon and is said to be ready to take a huge pay cut after eight years with the Ligue 1 champions.

The former Milan stopper could help Lampard solve the defensive weaknesses that saw his side ship 54 goals in the Premier League last season and lose 7-1 on aggregate to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

AC Milan and Fiorentina are also keen to make Thiago a Serie A star but the veteran has a dream of playing in England, the Telegraph has said.

Thiago is believed to be earning a hefty £1.3million a month with the French giants and is thought to be targeting a two-year contract at his next club.

Lampard has added the likes of Germany striker Timo Werner and former Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech to his attacking options but knows he needs to shore up his backline as he targets a tilt at a title challenge.

Speaking this week, Thiago declared: ‘I have already said a lot of times before I wanted to, that I want to finish [my career] here in Europe.

‘A decision was taken, now things are calm in my head. It will be…another club, but my heart will stay here.’

Everton coach Carlo Ancelotti could also move for the 89-cap international, having signed him when he was Milan manager in 2012.
