Meghan Markle’s birthday cake was this English classic made by a bakery close to her heart

The Royal Family could no doubt have their pick of the world’s bakeries for their celebration cakes, but it’s been revealed that Meghan Markle chose a very special brand for her birthday. The Duchess of Sussex, who has recently moved into a new home with her husband Prince Harry and their son, Archie, celebrated with a delicious cake by a bakery close to her heart. The bakery even shared her chosen recipe for the occasion on Tuesday’s Lorraine show.

The founders of the Luminary Bakery appeared on the Lorraine show to talk to Andi Peters, who is filling in for Lorraine Kelly this summer.

The Luminary Bakery is a London-based social enterprise, and has been in the spotlight thanks to Meghan Markle who has supported it since its launch.

The Duchess visited the flagship store in Camden last year to meet with the founders and to celebrate the opening of their second location in Hackney.

The bakery was created to help disadvantaged women who have been victims of violence, abuse or homelessness, offering support to get them back into work.

It’s one of the Luminary Bakery’s best-selling cakes and costs £45 to order online.

The recipe is described as “Lightly spiced carrot sponge cakes sandwiched and topped with cream cheese buttercream.

“Decorated in a crescent moon shape with candied orange slices, cinnamon crumble, pumpkin seeds, pistachio and rosemary.”

Piped messages can also be added for celebrations and special events for an extra £5 cost.

The caption read: “It was a special moment to acknowledge the spirit of Luminary and their remarkable business model that opens its arms to women from vulnerable circumstances (be it abuse, poverty, trafficking, marginalisation) and equips them with the job skills and confidence to succeed.

“Having sat down with @luminarybakery at their flagship location earlier this year and from that inspiring visit choosing to feature them as #ForcesForChange in the September issue of @britishvogue, Her Royal Highness was proud to be invited to attend the launch of their second bakery.

“This addition will enable the organisation to provide services, support and mentoring for four times the number of women.

“Luminary Bakery – a sustainable grassroots organisation in the heart of London – is a beautiful example of community and uplifting those during hardship for the greater good.”
