Paul Scholes has urged Manchester United to sign Jadon Sancho after they missed several inviting chances in their Europa League semi-final defeat to Sevilla.
United were beaten 2-1 in Germany and were made to pay for their lack of ruthlessness in front of goal, particularly early in the second half with the score at 1-1.
The likes of Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial missed opportunities before Luuk de Jong scored Sevilla’s winner.

United have been heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star Sancho, and Scholes feels that they should match the German club’s £108million asking price.
Speaking on BT Sport, Scholes said: ‘I thought they were good tonight, but that 15 minutes after half-time, you have got to score them. We talk about spending money and about buying centre-forwards and wide players, you are talking about millions but they score the big goals.
‘I think if Sancho is in that team tonight they score one of those.
‘United were the better team but the defensive part of the second goal was shocking. Lindelof has got to be looking at him.’

Another former United player, Paul Ince, agreed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side should have finished their chances.
He said: ‘These are clear-cut chances that we are talking about here. There is no excuse about what we saw today. It is about being ruthless. Credit to Sevilla but as a player I am devastated.’
Owen Hargreaves also agreed and stressed that United should have been more clinical when they were in charge of the game.
He said: ‘Frustration would be the thing for United. The goalkeeper had a worldie, United had some finishing moments they didn’t take, that spell that United had they were unbelievable, they just needed to take their chances. You can’t lose three semi-finals in one season.

Anthony Martial was another who fluffed his lines as United crashed out against Sevilla
United took the lead courtesy of a penalty from Bruno Fernandes but Suso levelled for Sevilla.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had 20 shots, with seven of them on target, but they only managed to find the net once.
A lack of ruthlessness in front of goal ultimately proved to be United’s undoing.
They also found Sevilla goalkeeper Bono in inspired form, while the Spanish side’s defence was resilient.

Dortmund initially set a deadline of August 10 for United to secure a deal for Sancho but, after that date passed, he travelled with the Bundesliga side to Switzerland for pre-season.
Although Dortmund have insisted that Sancho won’t be sold, they have made similar declarations in the past about players such as Ousmane Dembele and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who ended up leaving.
United’s current front three of Greenwood, Martial and Rashford have been widely praised for their displays since Solskjaer’s team returned to action, but the arrival of Sancho would certainly provide an extra injection of quality.
