This last weekend marked the 43rd anniversary of Elvis Presley’s untimely death. The King died of a heart attack on the toilet upstairs at Graceland. His only daughter Lisa Marie Presley was staying over and she once recounted discovering the tragic news aged just 9.
Lisa Marie was speaking in her first joint interview from Graceland with mother Priscilla Presley during the 35th anniversary of Elvis’ death.
She told The TODAY Show: “I knew something was wrong, because I was in my room which was right next to his bathroom.
“So I knew that something was very wrong.
“All the commotion and everything. I was a wreck.”

While it’s now a museum, Elvis’ daughter still sees Graceland as her home.
And she and her family privately honour The King in very touching ways when they visit.
Graceland archivist Angie Marchese told fans in an Instagram Q&A earlier this year: “Yes, the family does still visit Graceland quite often.
“One of Lisa’s favourite things to do here is to actually share with her kids and her friends her memories of Graceland.”
She continued: “And do things that Elvis and her used to do like ride golf carts or see the horses and things like that.
“But they do come quite often. This is still her home.”
While later on in the video, another fan asked if the kitchen appliances still worked.
The Graceland archivist said: “Yes the kitchen appliances do work. They’re turned off for fire safety, but they do still work.”
She added: “And when Lisa Marie and her family are here we fire then up and sometimes they’ll have dinner here in the mansion.”
Graceland’s upstairs is perfectly preserved by the archivist, who is one of the only people allowed up there.
Angie said: “We do go up there to maintain the space. The record on the record player is the last record he listened to.
“There’s a styrofoam cup that sits on a bookshelf.”
