Billie Piper: Chris Evans' ex shares child fame struggle she is now 'coming to terms with'

Singing sensation and actress Billie Piper, 37, has been in the spot light since she was 15-years-old and never looked back since. But she admits fame at such a young age takes its toll, and struggles to remember a lot of her 20s due to “stress”.

The Doctor Who star spoke candidly about her rise to stardom and how her new Sky comedy drama about a celebrity victim of hacking uses experiences not just from her life, but from other child stars as well.

But she made very clear that the show isn’t totally autobiographical, worried that the eight-part series would be taken “too literally”.

Despite her reservations on the topic, she admits to drawing on her own fame and her anxiety was “key” to the dramas emotional heart.

“I know exactly what that feels like and I’m sure it feeds into my performance,” she said, speaking about her character Suzi Pickles.

Billie was the youngest artist to reach number one in the charts with her debut single Because We Want To, that she released aged 15 in 1998.

The song’s success saw her release another number one hit and two albums before she announced in 2003 that she was abandoning her music career to focus on acting.

Her 20s saw her first marriage to radio presenter Chris Evans, after the pair tied the knot in 2001 when Billie was just 19 and Chris was 35.

They amicably split in 2005 with their divorce becoming official two years later in 2007.

The pair remained close friends, and she even attended his wedding to his current wife Natasha Shishmanian the same year.

2007 also saw Billie marry Laurence, but the pair announced plans to separate in 2016.

Billie Piper’s full interview is available to read now in Radio Times.

I Hate Suzie is set to debut on Sky on 27 August.
