Adil Ray in furious clash with Trump supporter over ‘disinfectant’ advice: 'That is a lie'

The ITV breakfast show often plays host to some very vocal guests and Monday’s instalment was no different. Adil Ray and Charlotte Hawkins were joined by Trump supporter, American lawyer and Republican Party official, Harmeet Dhillon. Ray was keen to find out what Dhillon thought about Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic and things grew incredibly heated.

Dhillon appeared opposite Democratic State Senator Melissa Hurtado, who was in firm support of Joe Biden’s ongoing presidential campaign.

Ray asked Dhillon: “Which bit of out of context do you mean when we have the leader of America, probably the biggest leader in the world, talk about disinfectant?

“Recommending we take certain drugs that medical professionals will be so against? What bit of out of context are we not getting?”

Dhillon told the host: “Well that is a lie, of course, the top experts at Stanford University and around the world are hydroxychloroquine…

For you to say that’s not what medical professionals are recommending is frankly false…”

Ray interjected: “So are you recommending that now, are you saying we should be taking that?” to which she responded: “I’m not a doctor.

“I’m not a doctor,” she repeated, before Ray noted: “Neither is Donald Trump.”

Dhillon continued: “I’m not giving medical advice,” with the host adding: “Well neither should Donald Trump.”

However, when probed by Ray on whether she was taking the drug “at the moment,” Dhillon appeared confused by the line of questioning.

She said: “Why would I? I’m not sick,” leading Ray to follow up by asking if she would take the drug if she were to become unwell.

“Absolutely. If I was ill, I would take it in a second,” Dhillon insisted.

Those watching on Twitter soon reacted to the debate this morning, labelling Dhillon “confrontational.”

One commented: “Wow this woman being interviewed on GMB is vile. So confrontational when being asked simple things #gmb.”

Another questioned: “What the actual f*** is she going on about?? #gmb.”

A third said: “@CharlotteHawkns @adilray Ohhhhhh that didn’t go to plan did it hahaha #schooled #Trump #GMB.”

“Harmeet Dhillon being interviewed showing great defensive interview skills at burying her head in the sand and refusing to acknowledge that #Trump is a clown, but the world isn’t laughing! #GMB,” shared another.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
