Drivers can secure new car discounts through these ‘negotiation’ and ‘haggling’ tips

Car sales figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) revealed that more cars were sold in July 2020 than a year previously as over 170,000 models left forecourts. But, experts have warned drivers could secure better deals when purchasing a vehicle through simple negotiating techniques.

Recent data has revealed that 88 percent of British people would prefer to pay full price then ask for a discount,

However, Motor Source Group believes drivers can be successful with securing better deals if they haggle at the dealership.

The firm says buying a new car is one of the best opportunities for motorists to try out their negotiating skills with drivers able to “secure huge discounts” if they are prepared to offer less.

Steve Thornton, Founder of the firm has urged drivers to go into negotiations with confidence and to not make it easy for firms to say no.

This will leave sales teams to consider whether they can accommodate the offer or come back with a similar deal.

Prospective buyers are also urged to target dealerships who may already be offering deals and discounts as these could be more flexible on prices.

They urge drivers to always speak to a manager or head of sales when striking a deal as they will likely have the authority to reduce costs.

Motor Source Group urges road users to try and haggle extra features if there is no room for negotiation on the base price.

“Equally, everyone in sales has targets to hit. These will usually be reviewed at the end of the month, so consider waiting until the end of the month to buy, as you will be more likely to be successful with your negotiations.

“Lastly, consider the time in the registration year. If you’re buying new and a new plateis about to be released, they may want them out of the showroom and any leftover stock shifted before they lose value.”

Motor Source Group offers a range of new and used car discounts for key workers, health staff and former military servicemen and women.

The firm has sold over 25,000 cars, saving buyers up to £100million in discounts on top models.
