'What on earth was THAT?': Social media stunned by Kevin De Bruyne pass

‘What on earth was THAT?’: Social media stunned by incredible Kevin De Bruyne pass as Manchester City star shows-off his talents despite 3-1 defeat by Lyon

Kevin De Bruyne may not have dragged Manchester City to a Champions League semi-final but the Belgian still pulled-off some magic in Lisbon.

The Citizens crashed out of Europe on Saturday with a 3-1 defeat to Lyon, with one minute of madness costing City as Raheem Sterling missed a sitter before Moussa Dembele poked-in the Ligue 1 side’s third.

De Bruyne scored City’s only goal but was left devastated after suffering defeat despite moments of brilliance showing his excellent form, including a stunning pass moments before the break.

The 29-year-old picked up the ball in midfield before bypassing the entire Lyon team with a sweeping, outside-of-the-boot ball into the final-third for Sterling, whose first-touch wasn’t good enough to finish off the move.

De Bruyne is many fans’ favourite for Premier League player of the season after another stunning campaign, showing his incredible technique once more in his 48th and final game of 2019-20.

Viewers rushed to Twitter to highlight the pass, with @vicaston10 writing: ‘How do I explain to my kids that De Bruyne made this pass with the outside of his foot and it still got to Sterling?

‘The best midfielder in the world at the moment.’

Equally impressed, @Finnalesky added: ‘What on earth was this pass from Kevin de Bruyne? My God,’ while rival fan @ThatDayInMay99 was quick to mock City: ‘At least De Bruyne got the ‘pass of the quarter-final’ trophy.

In the same vein, @afcswebb wrote: ‘City fans when they lose but Kevin De Bruyne did a nice pass,’ attaching a video of David Luiz’s hysterical celebration for Brazil against Columbia at the 2014 World Cup.
