“I didn’t see any blistering, but we didn’t see blistering last Friday either, so I really can’t say too much,” said Hamilton. “It felt okay. We’re just about to do a debrief so I’ll find out where we stand in that respect.
“But the long run didn’t look too bad. I don’t know how much further we could go, as oppose to how much further Red Bull can go compared to us. And that will determine whether it’s a one or two-stop [strategy] this weekend.”
Valtteri Bottas, who went quickest during Free Practice 1 on Friday, is eager to close the gap on drivers’ standings leader Hamilton this weekend.
He admits tyre degradation is a worry following his 11th and third-place finishes at the British and 70th Anniversary Grands Prix respectively.
“The morning session was good, maybe a bit better for me than the afternoon,” said Bottas. “Still, good learning. I think we are looking strong as a team.
“But again the main thing will be Sunday with these temperatures, how we’re going to keep the tyres in good condition.”
