Camping holidays: UK’s ‘safest’ destinations to pitch up revealed amid staycation surge

Just seven percent of those surveyed said they were planning on pitching in the West Midlands, home to Stratford-upon-Avon.

Meanwhile, only eight percent intend to head to the East Midlands, an area famed for the awe-inspiring peak District.

The North East was also highlighted as a great opportunity to beat crowds and soak up some culture.

According to the research, a mere nine percent of campers plan to visit the northern destination, which is home to tourist sites such as the Angel of the North and Bamburgh Castle

It is a region that Lisa Minot highlighted during her round-up.

“Also on that list of places that are going to be quieter and more socially distant is the North East,” said the travel expert.

“That for me has some of the best features in the UK.”

Though the south of England is one of the most popular regions for camping, the Decathlon experts say that there are still plenty of opportunities to avoid overcrowding.

According to the findings, just 11 percent of staycation seekers intend to camp within the South East.

However, it was the South West which was named as the busiest region with 25 percent of campers heading to the likes of Cornwall and Devon.
