Call of Duty Modern Warfare update: Big COD Warzone patch news for PS4 and Xbox One

Things could run a little differently this week when it comes to the usual weekly Call of Duty Modern Warfare update. Recently, Activision has been sharing news regarding Modern Warfare and COD Warzone on a Monday, followed by a new patch being deployed on a Tuesday. But this week, there are rumours that the new Call of Duty game will be revealed, or at least teased officially, by Activision.

Leading Call of Duty media outlets have been sharing pictures of mysterious wooden crates being sent to them, hinting that something big is being announced on Monday.

The instructions that come with the crates say, “Do not open this crate until August 10, 2020 – 12pm EDT.”

And a new trailer being launched at around 5pm BST sounds like a great way to start building the hype around the new game.

The Wooden Crate also came with instructions on how to open the box at the right time using a code.

Hints have also been popping up in Call of Duty Warzone this week that seem tied to a new reveal.

This includes the screen flickering and the phrase “Know Your History.” showing briefly. This has been recorded on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

This all suggests that something big is happening very soon and that could disrupt when the next Modern Warfare update arrives.

We would still expect some kind of patch this week, but it may not arrive in the usual Tuesday time frame.

What makes this year’s Call of Duty announcement so different is that it will reportedly affect Call of Duty Warzone in a big way.

It’s expected that Warzone will continue to be supported with new content, but this time sourced from COD 2020.

This could mean a new map being launched soon after Season 5 ends and the new Call of Duty is released.

And while Season 5 is expected to last a few months, fans will be interested to find out what is being planned next.

Back to this week, and we would expect a new Call of Duty update to be released to changes the current playlists.

This includes the free weekend playlist, which gives all Warzone players access to Modern Warfare.

This is scheduled to end on August 12 at 10AM PT (6pm BST) so that might be when we see the new Warzone patch go live.

A message from Activision explains: “Get more Modern Warfare, free starting on August 7 at 10AM PT until August 12 at 10AM PT.

“This action-packed free access period gives free-to-play Warzone™ users entrance to new Multiplayer content that debuted in Season Five including two new maps – Suldal Harbor and Petrov Oil Rig.

“Bring your skills to the Multiplayer moshpit and gear up for a battle where you’ll likely encounter more opposition than you do in a standard Battle Royale match.

“The moshpit will offer deathmatch modes like Team Deathmatch, a race to rack up 75 kills and Kill Confirmed, a 65-kill win condition where kills are only counted when they are confirmed by picking up enemy dog tags.

“Plus, there will be some objective modes: Domination, points are earned by holding objectives, first to 200 wins, and Hardpoint, points are earned by holding a single rotating objective, first to 250 wins.”
