Liverpool ‘consider £35m bid for Bournemouth’s David Brooks’ as Jurgen Klopp looks to boost his midfield options after Adam Lallana’s departure

  • Reports claim Liverpool want to sign Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks
  • Jurgen Klopp is in need of some wide reinforcements for the Reds’ title defence
  • Adam Lallana has joined Brighton while Xherdan Shaqiri may also leave Anfield
  • Brooks has scored eight league goals since his arrival at Bournemouth in 2018

Liverpool are contemplating putting in a bid for Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks, according to reports.

The 23-year-old impressed towards the back end of the season for the Cherries but couldn’t prevent his side from being relegated to the Championship after a five-year stay in the top flight.

Brooks missed the most of the 2019-20 season due to an ankle injury picked up in pre-season but the temporary suspension of the Premier League meant that he was able to return for the relegation run-in.

And according to The Sun, Jurgen Klopp has seen enough in the young midfielder to consider putting in a £35million bid for his services.

Klopp is in need of some reinforcements out wide following Adam Lallana’s departure to Brighton earlier this summer.

The same report says that Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri is also surplus to requirements at Anfield ahead of the Premier League champions’ title defence.

Liverpool currently boast one of the top front-three combinations in the league in Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Brooks joined Bournemouth in a £12m move from Sheffield United in 2018 and hit the ground running with some impressive performances.

The wide man scored seven goals in 30 top-flight appearances in his debut season for the Cherries, which saw him nominated for the 2018-19 PFA Young Player of the Year Award.

But his ankle injury meant that he was only restricted to nine Premier League games in Bournemouth’s doomed campaign, with his only goal of the season being a last-gasp consolation in a 2-1 defeat away at Manchester City in July.

Brooks has also been capped 12 times by Wales and is expected to be part of Ryan Giggs’ squad for next summer’s European Championships that were delayed by a year due to the global pandemic.

The 23-year-old will be looking to secure a spot in a Premier League side before the transfer window closes on October 5.

The start date for the new 2020-21 top-flight season is September 12.
