Amanda Holden: BGT star gives crucial update on 'dear friend' Simon Cowell after surgery

Amanda Holden, 49, shared a sweet snap of her with “dear friend” Simon Cowell today after the music mogul underwent surgery as a result of falling from his electric bike. Simon broke his back in several places while testing out his new bike on Saturday outside his Malibu mansion.

Amanda, who works closely with Simon on Britain’s Got Talent, updated fans on his progress following six hours of surgery at Providence Saint John’s hospital in Santa Monica.

Sharing a throwback photo of the pair, she wrote: “I’ve been thinking about my dear friend all day and luckily I’m able to say (with blessing) that he’s had his operation and he’s doing really well.

“Chris Lexi Hollie and me wish you a speedy recovery and send you, Lauren and Eric all our love,” alongside a heart emoji.

The twosome have been close friends after Simon hired Amanda as a Britain’s Got Talent judge back in 2007.

“He fell flat on his back, and the doctors say the impact missed his spinal cord by about a centimetre and it could have been a lot, lot more serious.

“He was in surgery for six hours, and they had to put a metal rod in his back and fix a number of things.

“He is recovering in hospital now, and we expect him to be there for a few days, and then he will take things from there.

“It is too early to say when he will be back on TV.”

The accident was reported to have been severe enough to have left Simon paralysed for life, as he missed breaking his spinal cord “by a centimetre”.

Simon took up biking to help maintain his weight loss after he slimmed down following a lifestyle overhaul.

The 60-year-old turned to exercise and healthy eating following a terrifying incident in 2017 where he fell down the stairs.

He was on the way to his kitchen in the early hours, when he slipped and injured himself, prompting him to change his ways.
