GTA 6 release date news: Grand Theft Auto fans at last get a positive update

GTA 6 is one of the most highly anticipated games on the horizon, but it’s unclear when the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series will be out. It has been almost seven years since GTA 5 first came out, with no official confirmation from Rockstar Games on if GTA 6 will be in the works and when it’ll be out. It looks like the GTA 6 release date will be – at the very least – from 2022 onwards, as the second half of next year will see the release of an enhanced version of GTA 5 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

It doesn’t seem likely that GTA 6 would launch during the same year as that would eat into the sales of the next-gen version of GTA 5.

So, Grand Theft Auto gamers look like they’ll be waiting for a while longer until GTA 6 finally hits the shelves.

And as the wait for news rumbles fans have at last got a positive update about GTA 6.

It looks like work is progressing behind the scenes on GTA 6, with deals being struck to sort out the licensing for the game’s soundtrack.

And, from the artists that are being targeted, it looks like GTA 6 will indeed be making a return to Vice City.

This news was highlighted by tweeter @VectorHold who posted: “GTA6 will most likely take place in Vice City.

“Music rights clearing people have been hitting up Synthwave artists for a ‘Radio Station’.”

The news was highlighted in a post on the GamingLeaksAndRumours Reddit page with the OP explaining why VectorHold should be trusted as a source.

They said: “Vector Hold is a new retro 80’s Synthwave project by Peter Brian Rice from the San Francisco Bay Area. specializing in sound design and production for 80’s/90’s retro gaming soundtracks, film scoring.

“The synthwave community is very tight, so doesn’t surprise me at all that they’re sharing this with one another.”

The news was greeted warmly by fans, who were left coming up with wishlist picks for a GTA 6 soundtrack.

One Redditor posted: “Blue Monday here we go”.

Another wrote: “This would be the perfect trailer song.”

One added: “The eighties were, in the musical subject, quite the time to be alive.”

And another posted: “Every other period GTA game has real music from the correct period. Why would they hire a modern synthwave artist and not just licence tangerine dream or something?”

GTA 6 is heavily rumoured to be set in Vice City during the 80s, with a rumoured drug running story that is inspired by Netflix hit Narcos.

It has also been claimed that GTA 6 will feature a new location in South America, while there have also been murmurs that GTA 6 could be a timed PS5 exclusive.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see GTA 6 set in a bygone era, with Dan Houser previously talking about the challenges of making a GTA game set in modern times.

Houser, back in 2018 before he left Rockstar Games, said: “It’s really unclear what we would even do with it, let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did. Both intense liberal progression and intense conservatism are both very militant, and very angry.

“It is scary but it’s also strange, and yet both of them seem occasionally to veer towards the absurd. It’s hard to satirise for those reasons.

“Some of the stuff you see is straightforwardly beyond satire. It would be out of date within two minutes, everything is changing so fast.”
