Ultimately, he couldn’t break out of the cycle and was endlessly repeating the same actions over and over and hoping for a different outcome.
He lied to Jonas because he thought it was necessary to stop the cycle, but it was a pre-determined action within the endless loop.
Just like Eva (Barbara Nüsse), he wrongly thought the origin of the knot was their son when really it was something completely unconnected to their two worlds.
Most of the characters in Dark seemed to be controlled by destiny apart from Claudia Tiedemann (Julika Jenkins) who realised what was going on.
Claudia was the one who figured out how to break the cycle – and it was something which could only be done in the Origin World which existed outside Adam and Eva’s ones.
