Borussia Dortmund 'will offer Sancho a new deal with big pay rise' if Man United don't pay £108m

Sancho deal on the rocks? Borussia Dortmund make late bid to fend off Manchester United by ‘offering England star £3.5m pay rise if they do not cough up required £108m’ with just two days to go before their August 10 deadline

  • Dortmund ‘are prepared to offer Sancho a new contract’ if he stays with them
  • Bundesliga club are demanding Man United pay £108m for the England star
  • United believe fee is too high amid financial impact of coronavirus pandemic
  • Dortmund have given United until Monday to agree to pay their asking price
  • Reports in Germany say his salary would rise from £5.4m to above £9m

Borussia Dortmund ‘will offer Jadon Sancho a new contract with a sizeable salary increase’ if Manchester United don’t match their £108million asking price by Monday.

The two clubs are at an impasse of a transfer fee for the England star with United believing Dortmund’s asking price is too high given the current economic climate.

And German newspaper Bild report that Dortmund will try and tempt Sancho to stay at the Westfalenstadion with an enhanced deal on the £190,000-a-week he currently earns.

Bild report that Sancho’s annual salary will be increased from 6 million euros (£5.4m) to 10 million euros (£9m), his third contract improvement since joining Dortmund in 2017. His present deals run until June 30, 2022.

However, that wage packet is still considerably less than Sancho would be offered at Old Trafford, which reportedly would be closer to the £350,000-a-week mark.

United’s deal for Sancho, 20, looked to be close to fruition early last week but the asking price continues to prove a stumbling block.

Dortmund are determined to get £108m for one of their star assets, especially off the back of an excellent season that saw Sancho score 20 goals and contribute 20 assists in all competitions.

But United feel the price is too high given the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their finances and threatened to walk away from negotiations.

Dortmund have set Monday as a deadline for United to commit to paying their asking price because they don’t want a transfer saga to disrupt pre-season preparations.

The squad head to the Swiss resort of Bad Ragaz for a training camp on Monday as they count down to the new Bundesliga season.

Sancho is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s No 1 summer transfer target and a statement signing after United qualified for next season’s Champions League following a third-place finish in the Premier League.

But with Dortmund refusing to budge on their valuation, the Premier League club have a list of alternative targets – believed to include Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman.
