In the second season of the thrilling comic book series, The Umbrella Academy must race against the clock to return to their original timeline. However, 2019 isn’t quite how they remembered when they finally got back at the end of the Netflix show’s latest instalment. Here’s how some important hints set up the team’s new rivals.
Over the course of The Umbrella Academy’s acclaimed second season, Vanya Hargreeves (played by Ellen Page) causes some major problems when she transfers her powers to a young boy, Harlan (Justin Paul Kelly).
Although she tries to drain his newfound abilities, the last moments of the finale revealed Harlan has retained his power of telekinesis.
Events take yet another strange turn when the Academy return to 2019 to discover their old mansion has been overtaken by a mysterious group known as the Sparrow Academy.
Not only that, but their adoptive father, Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore), is still alive, alongside Ben (Justin H. Min), who previously only appeared as a ghost.

Netflix has still not renewed the series for a third season, but fans are eager to see the surreal adventures continue after The Umbrella Academy’s dramatic finale.
The Sparrow Academy were originally introduced in Gerard Way’s comic book series of the same name.
However, for fans of the series who don’t want to be spoiled, some perceptive viewers have spotted some revealing clues which could set up the events of season three.
A group of fans took to Reddit when they noticed an intriguing connection between Harlan and the Sparrow Academy.
Some fans think Harlan and Reginald may have crossed paths at some point between the Umbrella Academy departing in 1963 and their return to the present day.
Another viewer suggested: “I think their dad was so disappointed seeing them that he decided to adopt other kids”
“And because Ben wasn’t there at that time he adopted him in his Sparrow Academy.”
While one more fan added: “My thoughts as well. I can see Harlan being Regi’s protégé at some point.”
It doesn’t look like Harlan is present during the finale of season two, but would only be in his late 60s by the time 2019 rolls around.
After retaining Vanya’s powerful and unpredictable abilities in the last episode, Harlan and the Sparrow Academy could pose the team their greatest challenge when season three is finally released.
The Umbrella Academy quickly shot to the top of Netflix’s list of popular shows, so things are looking positive for the series’ continuation.
