Piers Morgan hits out at 'shameful decision' in furious rant ‘£350k to sit on his a**e’

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, 55, took to Twitter to slam his favourite football club’s decision as he blasted player Mesut Ozil, 31, and addressed Stan Kroenke’s earnings, who owns Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, the holding company of the football club Arsenal F.C. In view of his 7.6 million followers, he wrote: “Arsenal firing 55 staff when we’re owned by a multi-billionaire, have just made £££ by winning the FA Cup & qualifying for Europe, & pay Mesut Ozil £350k-a-week to sit on his a**e, is morally indefensible & not what I expect from a club with our heritage. Shameful decision.”

Many of the host’s followers flocked to his post to comment.

One user wrote: “Although the job losses are bad, we are a football club we do need to keep our best players.”

A second commented: “Football is morally bankrupt, Covid has shown the dystopian future where fans are no longer important, that all that matters is money and vested interests.”

“It is not just about saving money when making redundancies,” a third wrote.

“It is about a change in business climate which means those jobs are no longer required. Harsh reality.

“You can’t employ people out of charity.”

Yesterday, the club released a statement addressing the cuts, which they claim are a result of the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

As part of a lengthy statement on their official website, Head of Football Raúl Sanllehi and Managing Director Vinai Venkatesham wrote: “Revenue from broadcasters, matchday and commercial activities have all been hit severely and these impacts will continue into at least the forthcoming 2020/21 season.

“We know this is upsetting and difficult for our dedicated staff and our focus is on managing this as sensitively as possible.”

The news came less than a week after the team won the FA Cup to secure their place in next season’s Europa League.

Piers took to his Instagram page last week to address Arsenal’s big win, during his break in the south of France.

The presenter shared a picture of the team celebrating their victory at Wembley Stadium.

He wrote: ”It’s been a s****y year, so forgive me if I take a little moment to celebrate something that makes me very very very happy: ARSENAL: FA CUP CHAMPIONS 2020.”

Piers went on to praise his favourite team for their “brilliant performance”.

He also shared a picture with player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as he pleaded for him not to leave the club amid reports he may join Barcelona FC.

He wrote: “Dear ⁦@aubameyang97,⁩ please don’t leave Arsenal.

“You’re our captain, best player, & a wonderfully positive leader for our club. I think ⁦@mikelarteta⁩ is building something special, but he needs you to drive it.

“If you stay, you’ll get the fans’ undying love & a statue.”
