Charles Leclerc explains why he won't take a knee as Lewis Hamilton plots fresh F1 talks

“Anybody is free to express it the way we want and that’s what I did, I wanted to stand. I bowed my head to respect this, and yes I’m completely against racism.

“I’ve seen a few things on social media, honestly, that disgust me, to judge someone racist just because he didn’t take the knee for me is not right and it’s definitely not me. But I wanted to do it that way.”

Last week’s well-organised anti-racism protest at Silverstone came after Hamilton had called out senior figures at F1 and the FIA for not giving the fight against discrimination a big enough platform.

Leclerc, Hamilton and co. will return to the Northamptonshire circuit this weekend as part of the coronavirus-hit 2020 schedule.

Silverstone will host the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix as F1 celebrates seven decades of racing.
