Sony are still yet to reveal the PS5 price, despite the PlayStation 5 release date fast approaching. The next-gen PlayStation has a confirmed launch window of holiday 2020, with a release date predicted around October or November time. And with a few months to go until the expected launch Sony are still keeping the price of the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition under wraps.
Gamers have had a few false dawns, with rumours circulating that Sony were going to reveal the PS5 price tag this week – but that turned out not to be the case.
A State of Play broadcast is being held tomorrow (Thursday August 6) but there will no information on the PS5 price, release date or when pre-orders will be opening.
And as fans wait for PS5 price information to drop a bigwig at gaming giant Blizzard has said the reveal is still a way off.
Mike Ybarra, the executive vice president at Blizzard, said the PS5 price tag won’t be known “for a while unfortunately”.
Ybarra was responding to a comment from former Xbox marketing lead Albert Penello about Sony’s decision to only allow PS4 controllers to work with backwards compatible games on the PS5.
Responding to the thread Ybarra tweeted: “All this is just noise. The price of the box console and the quality of the exclusive games are the deciding factors to many of the hardcore gamers out there. ‘Where your friends are’ is still a big factor too. Price won’t be known for a while, unfortunately.”

From the sounds of it PlayStation fans won’t be getting an announcement imminently on the PS5 price tag, but how far away this news is remains to be seen.
Sony are rumoured to be holding a PS5 event in August where they will reveal more details on the games heading to the next-gen PlayStation.
One of the most heavily rumoured announcements is the reveal of a Silent Hill reboot that will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5.
While rumours are also circulating that we could see Final Fantasy 16 get unveiled during the PS5 event, and that it will be a timed PS5 exclusive.
We could also finally get to see the Call of Duty 2020 game get announced, and there are also murmurs that the next God of War game could get a showing at the PS5 event.
It remains to be seen whether any of these rumours will come to fruition, and if a potential PS5 August event does reveal anything about the console’s price tag.
It would be surprising if Sony held back details on the PS5 price, release date and pre-orders for another month but never say never.
At the moment it seems Microsoft and Sony are engaged in a game of chicken, waiting for either party to announce pricing details first so they can respond accordingly.
Microsoft are rumoured to be announcing their lower cost Lockhart console this month, while rumours have emerged that Series X pre-orders could be opening soon.
If that is the case then we may get price news for the Xbox Series X and PS5 drop in quick succession.
But, for the time being it looks like the wait for a PS5 price announcement will continue for quite a while yet.
In other PS5 price news, French retailer Carrefour recently listed pricing for the PS5 on their website.
Their website listed the PS5 with a 4K Blu-Ray drive as costing €499 and the PS5 Digital Edition as costing €399.
The PS4 launched at €399 in Europe, $399 in the US and £349 in the UK so we could see a bit of history repeating if this information is correct.
The DualSense controllers were priced at €49.90, which is the same price for the HD Camera, the Pulse 3D Headset, the Media Remote and the DualSense Charging Station.
It’s unclear if this pricing is leaked info that went up early or simply placeholders.
