Rafael Nadal follows Nick Kyrgios in withdrawing from US Open due to coronavirus fears

Nadal’s decision to withdraw from the US Open follows on news that the Madrid Open – scheduled to start on September 13th – had been cancelled.

It means both Nadal and Roger Federer won’t compete at the US Open, with the latter missing the rest of 2020 while recovering from a knee operation.

But Novak Djokovic is expected to play the first Grand Slam of the year with young ATP Tour stars such as Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas all in line to play.

Djokovic, Nadal and Federer have won the last 13 Grand Slam titles between them meaning there could be a chance that run ends at the US Open in a few weeks.
