Princess Anne met her first husband due to a shared love of horses, at a party for equestrians. Anne’s first engagement ring was a trilogy sapphire and diamond ring get on a gold band. There was a large central round sapphire with two brilliant cut diamonds on either side.
The gorgeous ring shows a penchant for sapphire engagement rings within the Royal Family predates Princess Diana’s more famous stone.
Mark Phillips and Anne met at a party in 1968. The announcement of their engagement was made three years later in 1973 and they wed the same year.
Sadly, the couple separated in 1989, the same year Anne’s relationship with her now-husband Timothy Laurence began to develop their relationship.
They married on 12 December 1992 after Timothy gave Anne another sapphire engagement ring, indicating this stone must a be a favourite of the Princess Royal.

It was a more quiet affair than Anne’s first, televised, wedding with 30 guests at the ceremony.
She wore a white jacket, a white knee-length dress and a pretty spray of white flowers in her characteristically beehived hair.
For her first wedding, Anne wore a Tudor-inspired wedding dress made by the head designer of popular brand Susan Small.
She wore the Queen Mary Fringe Tiara and a long veil.
It has been suggested Anne could scoop the title of Queen in the future by some – but is this possible?
The Succession to the Crown Act 2013 set out that the eldest child would precede their siblings regardless of their gender.
The law change could have meant Princess Anne would have stayed second in line to the throne.
However, this only applied to those who were born after October 28, 2011, meaning Princess Anne has missed out.
